Chile Pavilion for Expo 2015

“El Amor de Chile” is the name that has been given to the Chile Pavilion soon to be built on the site of the 2015 Milan Expo.
The winning design comes from the drawing board of architect Cristián Undurraga whose design was chosen from 21 projects participating in the international competition for the building that is to represent Chile at the 2015 Universal Exposition.

Undurraga arranged the 1.910 square meter pavilion as a suspended volume: a wooden frame surrounded by a mesh like wooden grid standing above ground level on four cement pillars. Access into the Chile Pavilion is on street level, through an area designed for relaxation, with table and benches available for visitors to rest and mingle with other travellers from around the world. The Chile Pavilion at the 2015 Expo is intended to be lived as a brief trip through the country, with video installations on the subject of the agriculture and the people that inhabit the south american country. 24 synchronised projectors will heighten the experience by transmitting video images on all surfaces inside the space giving visitors the chance to experience a boat trip with local fisherman in the Chilean sea or take a stroll through the vineyards of Carmenere.

In line with the theme of the 2015 Milan edition, ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for life’ the video installations are to focus on food production explained Lorenzo Constans – General Comissioner of the Chile Pavilion at Expo Milan in a recent interview: «we will offer different points of view to our country, illustrating the diversity and wealth of Chile from a political, geographical and food production point of view».

Visitors will also have the opportunity of experiencing Cile at the table by savouring local dishes and buying imported foods. The Pavilion has been designed to be dismantled after the Milan Expo for possible reuse at a later stage by the Chilean government.
