Pavilions of Expo 2015 Milano : MORROCO

Morocco, A Journey of Flavors

Continuing of the Expo Milano 2015 tour... towards the pavilion of Morocco.
This country participates in World Expos since the first, with consistent quality, and each time, show to million visitors a beautiful and original pavilion, with exciting content.
At the Milan Expo, Morocco is no exception to the rule, and offers us a visit, or rather "a journey of flavors", a whole program, to help "feed the world" ... so nice!

The Moroccan Pavilion is located in the eastern part of the Expo, close to the Roserio entrance, in a large space, a beautiful development of the architecture for the less original, but also very typical. The color is given, it's a construction that reminds us kasbah of Ouarzazate, built of adobe, on a wooden structure, like the Berber architecture of southern Morocco. It's both traditional, evocative of the country of origin but also very sustainable, the environment is also one of the major concerns of Morocco!

The Kingdom Morocco is a country that knows very well combine tradition and modernity, we already felt before entering, and of course, also inside the pavilion.

One never tires of admiring the pavilion that seems to invite us to come for a change of scenery for a real immersion in this country so welcoming.

We must thank already the pavilion's team for his kindness and explanations lavished during this visit-discovery. At the entrance of the pavilion, before passing the door, we are greeted by a large portrait of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco, as well as a large map of Morocco, very convenient for the rest of the visit, as we shall see.

The theme of the pavilion is a journey to the "Kingdom" of flavors, an invitation to sensory discoveries able to excite all our senses, thanks to products and Moroccan cuisine. We already appreciate all the wealth, this visit will allow us to discover the secrets and why not, to get acquainted with new products and new practices, both Morocco to share with us, thanks to the diversity of its regions , its climate, its people.

The visit is organized as a crossing of the kingdom, from North to South. Very fluid, the scenography offers us to cross five main areas:

The Mediterranean Sea :
The Mediterranean and its 500-kilometre coastline. Rich with a beautiful waterfront and a breath-taking panorama, northern Morocco is Africa’s gate-way for all travellers. Tangier, Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima... many cities nestled between mountains and sea, lulled by the calm, clear waters only coloured by fine white sand.

The Center :
Central Morocco, the country’s hydraulic basin. Thanks to its abundant flora and water bodies that supply an entire country, the Center is considered as the heart of Morocco. At the foot of the mountains, the forests hold themselves straight up, the vast plains extend to the entire region, and lakes are formed to give life to the entire region. Walking around the area, one can see the beautiful colours of the landscape perfectly shaped by Man.

The Atlas :
The Atlas ... one landscape gives way to another; the calm plains fade away and are replaced by the contours of the mountains. Morocco is the only Maghreb country with a huge mountain chain, the Atlas, which rises to 4,160 meters. This mountain chain brags its steep massifs, its rugged terrain, and its majestic landscape where the villages cling to the slopes and crops resist the altitude.

The Atlantic :
The Atlantic and its coasts, one of the richest fishing grounds in the world. The Moroccan Atlantic coast is characterised by the diversity of its landscapes and its large agricultural plains. From the Agadir fishing port to the beaches of Rabat or Casablanca through the ramparts of Essaouira, Morocco's Atlantic coast offers 1,300 kilometres of varied and contrasting landscapes. That’s where one finds vast lands brushed by sea wind, plains made fertile by irrigation, and dunes succeeding the steep cliffs.

The Great South :
The Great South and Its Desert Climate. Another facet of Morocco opens up to the world... hot and windy Morocco where wadis create oasis and where Men shape their land. Through the ancestral knowledge of Men, the empty vastness formed by the dry and rocky plateaus and dune fields give way to valleys. They give life to the oasis.

What to say about this visit? Certainly, every visitor will appreciate this crossing of Morocco ... each step in the country of the senses, reveals extraordinary, each region is revealed through its products and specialties, but also its specificities. It's very beautiful and very well done ... with increasingly ubiquitous flavors, magic seems perfectly operate.

When talking about visits of pavilions, we often use the term "Experience". For this pavilion of Morocco, we can say that this one is very successful, both in the sense of the theme of the Expo or the one of the pavilion, but especially in that of sensations perceived by the visitor, and therein lies the main!

But our tour of the pavilion is far from over ... and our trip to the land of flavors!
Since it is often customary in the pavilions of the Expo, the tour ends with a passage in the pavilion shop.

But beware, it's not a simple store of goods and souvenirs. Special attention seems to be winning here, to continue this unique "experience" in the heart of Morocco and its products. This Concept Store is very nicely decorated, or scenography should I say, a beautiful invitation, the souks Milan Version 2015, to be seduced.
Then, the last stage before the exit pavilion... ...we could not avoid the famous restaurant Delizie del Marocco, anf the famous Chef Moha (Dar Moha in Marrakech)!

We tasted for you... what are effectively the delights of Morocco who have given themselves go here to the delight of our taste buds! No real restaurant room, however, it's very advantageously replaced by a very pleasant terrace at the back of the pavilion. It allows to enjoy the excellent food, the shade of parasols and enjoy the view to the huge garden of the Morocco Pavilion, which will be our last stop here.

Indeed, a wide space of Morocco's plot was reserved for the realization of a rich and beautiful garden, gathering many plants and flowers of Morocco, in a maze of small paths... a very pleasant walk in an amazing landscape, the one of Expo Milano 2015.

One last word, that should pretty much sum up the visit of the flag of the Kingdom of Morocco: an enchanting visit, a change of scenery and a perfect immersion in the flavors of Morocco ... so thank you to Moroccan Pavilion, for making us vibrate, during the time of a visit ... which will remain engraved in our memories!

Pavilions of Expo 2015 Milano : AUSTRIA

Theme : «Breathe. Austria ».

From outside Austria is represented in a relatively simple but attractive... at the entrance, well-green trees and umbrellas with the colors of the country seem to mean "enter, and come breathe Austria".

The country has staked everything on its landscape and climate to make visitors aware of responsible exploitation of resources.

The interior of the pavilion is actually a large forest that fits the theme trail. It is nature that speaks and we can not be insensitive. The atmosphere is especially appreciated, a day of intense heat Milanese ... success guaranteed!

This pavilion is a "must" at the Expo!

Theme "Breathe. Austria"

The Concept

Austria is world-renowned as a country of culture, with a high standard of living. Austria’s key aim at the Expo Milano 2015 is to reinforce its reputation worldwide as an attractive place to live. Inside its 1,910 square meter exposition site, it showcases the naturally high standards and recreational spaces that make it so well-regarded.

Its positive image are enriched by new elements, such as the landscape and climate, playing a key role in driving awareness around the use of sustainable resources.

A large quantity of food is already produced with sustainable techniques and the range of organic products available to consumers in supermarkets is higher than anywhere else in Europe. Encouraging strong connections between producers, sellers and consumers is central to Austria’s thematic itinerary of food sustainability; its cuisine is the result of its cultural characteristics, being Austria a culturally independent country within the German-speaking world. Another feature of its exposition is the purity of its climate, air and environment.

History - Poland at Expo 1935 Brussels

This pavilion of Poland was designed by the engineer Damman. It occupies an area of 800 m². The artistic direction of all interior decoration was entrusted to Thaddeus Gronowsky. It was Georges Vaxelaire (writer, diplomat and Belgian businessman) who is the commissioner general of the pavilion.

It has a central hall and six side rooms, plus an office of information occupying a room behind the central hall.

Marechal Pilsudski bust.

One of them is intended to illustrate the hunting in Poland.
It contains many rare and rich hunting trophies constituting European records.

The second room shows the development of agriculture and the agricultural industry in Poland.

The third is dedicated to the Polish industries.

To the right of the Hall, three other rooms. The first is devoted to the Polish port of Gdynia, founded in 1924 and whose prodigious development sets was a real technical record.

The second right room contains a very interesting material on tourism in Poland, while the last is devoted to the problems of communication in Poland. Note locomotives and wagons models, products of major Polish industries.

Polish pavilion at Expo 2015 Milano... a Magical Garden.

Magical Garden.
The pavilion of Poland is both simple and singular. A simple shape like a big box, made with apple crates! Why not…

A long staircase lead us to a magic garden, which occupies the entire area of the terrace of the pavilion. The atmosphere is all the more strange that this garden is surrounded by mirrored walls, which reflect the infinite nature of the place, the vegetation and the Polish apple orchard. We then descend into the exhibition spaces, which remind us of the history of the country, the country, promotion and rural traditions still very important, with of course, interactive installations for a complete experience.

To complete the visit, not missing a small detour to the restaurant with a romantic atmosphere ... and the shop.

The stamp published by the Polish Post refers to the logo pavilion "#Poland" architecture of the pavilion and crates pommes.Le block has seven typical Polish fruit: raspberry, blackberry, apple, gooseberry, blackcurrant, blueberry and strawberry.

The Pavilion Architecture
Poland’s Pavilion project was created by studio 2PM, belonging to the up-and-coming Polish architect Piotr Musiałowski, and its originality and surprising form is a clear response to the theme of Expo Milano 2015, Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.

Eco-design
The Pavilion has a simple, rectangular form whose external look is outlined by wooden boxes. As for the building, it is treated as a large-scale box (or casket) in its entirety, hiding valuable "gems" within its interior spaces. The openwork structure refers to the ecological and simple form of apple boxes.

Magical Garden
One of the attractions of the Pavilion is its magical garden. The winning design relates to one of Poland’s top agricultural exports - apples. Piotr Musiałowski, leading the architectural team, during the conceptualization of the Pavilion, sought to create a symbolic maze, with a magical garden as its focal point – a Polish orchard, full of apple trees. The hidden garden becomes a place to relax on the other side of the mirror. An apple orchard reflected in infinite space is clearly associated with the Polish agriculture.

Polish Marché
On the piazza in front of the Pavilion will be featured scenery that combine to represent a solid "kaleidoscope" art installation, where visitors are drawn in, leaving the Decumano to visit the Pavilion. Encouraged by its many attractions, vistors can see the Polish Marchés – and discover the "mysterious gap" at the entrance to Poland’s Pavilion.

A path of discovery
Along the corridor that leads to the first floor of the Pavilion, visitors can discover a "nearby Poland." On the first floor, visitors come to a magical garden symbolizing an unusual and intriguing Poland and through its center follow a narrow, winding path interspersed at irregular intervals by apple trees. The reflection of trees in the mirrors creates the illusion of a vast and infinite space, thus emphasizing the magical atmosphere of the space.

From the garden, visitors pass directly to the next exhibition space, filled by the art installation of a giant apple containing a modern, colorful bas-relief depicting another part of the exhibition. On leaving the "apple" installation visitors are guided down to the ground floor of the Pavilion where the story of Poland’s economic success continues with animated graphics and projections.

Another part of the exhibition is devoted to the regions, promoting them and the use of rural land. The path leads the visitor to a cinema, in which a set of videos promoting the economy and culture of Poland. An interactive installation using modern ICT Technologies ensures that visitors enjoy a long-lasting and memorable experience.

On leaving this interactive and fun space, visitors can find an on-site store where they can browse through Poland’s regional products and top exports exhibited in designer showcases and taste regional, traditional produce. The last attraction of the Pavilion is a restaurant in which visitors can taste delicious Polish cuisine in a romantic and pleasant setting that certainly makes this one of the best and most relaxing places to be.

Pavilions of Expo 2015 Milano : ANGOLA

Angola in recent Expos, is among the countries not to be missed. This African country of nearly 25 million people is developing very fast, thanks to petrol and precious stones (5th African GDP).

The strong sense of national pride is definitely felt in this imposing pavilion, which has also tremendous success... very deserved !

The exterior of the pavilion is simple and very pleasant ... but inside lies the interest. It's festive and colorful, and tracking of scenography takes us on a journey through the Angolan food, and explains how this country, thanks to its experience, its culture and its traditions, can offer healthy and sustainable solutions for feed future generations.

It's really well done, and is drawn into a vortex of products and flavors ... with thousand colors.

Theme : « Food and Culture: Educate to Innovate ».

The cconcept
At its exhibition space, Angola seeks to showcase Angolan food and fare that can be used to create better and healthier lifestyles for future generations. Angola has chosen to elaborate the theme of Expo Milano 2015, Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life: focusing on the culture and soul of the African nation through its varied and traditional cuisine, with its theme of: Educate to Innovate.

The concept of education is interpreted here as awareness of nutrition in Angolan society from schools to universities, the re-definition of norms and regulations of local production and imports, and the introduction of quality checks in local markets.

The concept of innovation has two aspects: one, based on the constant encouragement of traditional local practices that are both healthy and sustainable. The other, to integrate the best technologies that science can offer for a robust sustainable development. The role of women is central to Angolan society - from food preparation to domestic economy, from family hygiene to education; they are at the heart of its traditions.

The design of the Pavilion
The Pavilion of Angola is divided into three floors plus a terrace, and covers an area of about 2,000 square meters. The structure, made with sustainable materials, is very simple and can be easily disassembled and reused. The intention of Angola is to create an unforgettable experience, inviting visitors to live the lifestyle of Angola, using technology and augmented reality that ensure physical and tactile experiences through interaction with natural materials. Angola responds to the theme of the Expo, Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life, imagining an exhibition that starts from the traditional elements of African history (represented in a stylized manner in the structure of the Pavilion) to address the delicate issue of production and conscious food consumption.

The Pavilion of Angola has an architectural concept inspired by a representation of the ''imbondeiro,” the sacred African baobab tree in the Angolan culture. The tree is the starting point from which visitors start a cultural and gastronomic journey inside the Pavilion through which they become acquainted with the content of the Angola Theme Statement: "Food and culture: Educate to Innovate." The Pavilion offers visitors a reflection based on the culture, the soul and the expression of a country focusing on food culture and its resources, as well as the importance of sustainable development. The most important and all-encompassing elements are education and the central role of women as promoters of development and guardians of tradition.

And to give envy to people to visit and discover this beautiful country, the Angolan postcards are available in the pavilion...
