Behind the Scenes: Sneak Peek
Sylvia, Alex and their town were created by a team of talented artists using creativity and technology. Thousands of drawings, paintings, blueprints and models were designed to bring the story to life.
It took over a year to develop the film; everything had to be at its best down to the littlest detail!

The Story of Sylvia & Alex. The Golden Ear - TEASER #2
2nd teaser for the European Union pavillion at Expo Milano 2015.
Two characters…
Sylvia
From an early age, Sylvia loved books. They introduced her into a world of logic and reason. It didn’t take long before she started scrutinizing the wonderful world of science and immersed herself into the latest technologies. Her passion for science drifted her into a fast career in scientific research with the EU where she also works on a food assistance programme to help less economically developed countries. Sylvia was born and raised in the big city and was never able to escape the fast rhythm of the urban life until now…
Alex
lex grew up in a small village between the wheat fields where tradition, nature and sustainability are nourished. He quickly found his mission in life as a farmer through the cultivation of top quality wheat, as well as smaller crops and fresh honey for the local market. Solidarity is essential in this community and Alex goes around lending a helping hand to anyone who can use it. He cherishes his life and the people around him, but somehow feels like something is missing. He can’t really put his finger on it, until faith finally reveals it to him and his tranquil life gets turned upside down. Alex grabs the opportunity with both hands, determined to achieve his goal.

This is the story of two neighbours…
Sylvia runs through life, barely seeing what is happening around her. As a scientist for the EU, she studies food safety and policies, but barely experiences the real art or nature of cooking. Every step she takes is well calculated and she considers everything as a scientific experiment, even her grandmother’s bakery that unexpectedly falls under her responsibility. While she has to move from the city to a little village and is getting lost in the right direction, she barely notices the lingering eyes of the handsome country man Alex. Determined to fill the void in his heart, he tries to catch her drifting attention.

Growing Europe’s Future Together for a Better World
Concept
The title chosen by the European Union for its participation in Expo Milano 2015 aims to create an emotional connection between visitors and the Exhibition theme, demonstrating its commitment to building a Europe and a world that is ever more sustainable.
The European Union will explain how feeding the planet means so much more than just taking care of food. It means implementing a well functioning internal market and a multilateral trade system, and it means setting standards for food sanitation and promoting efficient logistics.The European Union features in the various Thematic Routes planned for Expo Milano 2015. In the story of the history of mankind for example, one discovers grain, as an example of how food can unite people of different cultures. It is the same with the paradox between food abundance and scarcity – another Expo Milano 2015 theme that the EU considers as one of its objectives, just like eliminating hunger through its participation in development programs, while at the same time addressing the increasing obesity among its citizens. And there is the central role of research, looking for new and more sustainable ways to feed the world's population – which is rising steadily – with food that is safe and European.
In addition to embracing all the themes, the European Union, with its own dedicated Thematic Route, will involve the pavilions of all the member states, encouraging visitors to collect in each of these a different object, such as a seed or a token, that together form a personal collection that can then be assembled in the pavilion of the European Union.

7,3 million euro from the European Union
The amount is committed to cover several costs, including the organization of the stand and the location of the exhibition space in the Italian pavilion.
The European Union confirmed its committment to allocate 7,3 million euro – with 3 million euro concerning the payments for 2014 – for its participation in the Universal Exposition ‘Feeding the Planet – Energy for life’ in programme in Milan in 2015.
Event and Exhibitions
The amount is committed to cover several costs, from the basical ones related to the EU presence inside the Italian Pavilion (location of the exhibition space, organization of the stand, operational costs), to the preparatory and early phases of a base scientific programma for Expo 2015, including the collection of the data of reference for the definition of the corresponding policies. As for costs for the organization of events and exhibitions (repayment of the experts fees, exhibition material), they will be covered by the allocations concerning the scientific programmes, depending on the interested sector.
