This is the first time that this tiny republic appears in an
Expo, but we can say that it has won the first time a very honorable rank.
True, it has the good fortune to possess a minister in Paris, Baron Alméda, who
is a man of wit and good taste, and very rich.
The pavilion of the Dominican Republic, built by Messrs.
Courtois et Suffit, architects, occupies an area of about 200 square meters.
The expense totaled fifty thousand francs as provided by the Republic as
individuals and members of the Committee that Baron Alméda is president.
Visitors will find inside this pavilion samples of all the
products of the country; exotic wood, coffee, cocoa, sugar, tobacco, minerals,
waxes, etc., and, what is most worthy of notice of manufactured products, such
as soaps, rum, spirits, etc.
The various districts of the Dominican Republic: Santo
Domingo, Puerto Plata, Samana, Azua, Bayahouda, etc., held in honor of taking
part in this expo, like a large number traders of Le Havre and Paris who are
into business relations with this country.
