Call for Volunteers
Special work experience programme launched by the Ministry of Culture
The Ministry of Culture of Bahrain is participating in the Expo Milan 2015 for the first time next year. And in line with its international participations and representations of Bahraini culture and heritage to world audiences, the Ministry of Culture is looking for volunteers to give their time and energy as the Ministry prepares for the Expo and the opening of the Bahrain Pavilion, which is due to be launched on 1st May 2015.
The Pavilion represents a series of fruit gardens in a continuous landscape that is designed as a poetic interpretation of the agrarian cultural heritage of the country. The gardens each contain a dominant fruit tree that is native to Bahrain and are intersected by a series of closed spaces that contain in turn a reception area, exhibition spaces and a café serving local Bahraini food

POLAND in New York !
THE POLISH PAVILION
(Jan Cybulski and Jan Galinowski, architects; Cross & Cross,
associate architects), with its tower rising high above
the main entrance on Continental Avenue,
presents the story of Poland as she is today and as she intends to be in
the future-an active, vigorous member
of the family of nations.
Entering the
building, you see a Court of Honor in which
a bronze monument of Marshal Pilsudski and
an exhibit of original documents executed by Polish kings stress the democratic
traditions of the republic. Another section of the Court portrays the country's
participation in the development of America, beginning
with the arrival of the first Polish immigrants in 1608 and
the participation of Polish soldiers in the American Revolution.
From the Court of
Honor you pass . into the Hall of Science, where more than 200 inventions of
Polish origin are displayed.
The Republic's
maritime development is depicted
in another section, where two dioramas show the seaport Gdynia as a small fishing village
in 1921 and as it is today-a modern seaport of 130,000
inhabitants. Illuminated maps and charts
show the development of the Polish merchant marine.

In a Polish fashion
display, eight models demonstrate ladies'
wear designed and produced in Poland. The Exhibit includes natural silk grown
in that country and the latest pattern
for fabrics of native design.
Occupying
a separate building adjoining the main pavilion, a modern bar, a
popular tavern, a terrace cafe and a de
luxe restaurant provide a gourmet's paradise.
The bar features 400 different kinds of hors-d’œuvres, Polish zakaski,
rare Polish honey wine, and a dozen different kinds of
vodka.

Fatim-Zahra Ammor appointed Commissioner General of Moroccan pavilion !
Morocco has recently announced its participation at Expo 2015 Milano, from 1 May to 31 October 2015 under the theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life". For his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Maritime Fishing Aziz Akhannouch designated Fatim-Zahra Ammor as Morocco's Commissioner General for Expo Milano 2015.
With over 20 years experience in marketing and management of large projects, both in the management of multidisciplinary teams and the development of high potential, Fatim-Zahra Ammor is the woman who will carry the Moroccan participation in World Expo 2015. Ms. Fatim-Zahra, former marketing director of Akwa Group is the recipient of the National School of Advanced Technologies of Paris.

Somalia at Expo 2015 Milano
Theme: Plentiful life from a Little Water: Somalia - its Animals, its Fragrances
Zone aride pavilion
Somalia is a unique Country, where Nature has taught how life can prosper with little water. Inspired by the magnificent boswellia carterii tree, Somali herders have learned how to breed their animals in arid areas. The boswellia, whose roots are able to capture water and minerals from the rocks on which it grows, produces the most precious resin, the frankincense. Somalis have always loved the smell of their incense: they use it to welcome guests, to embellish their houses and to fumigate water containers. For Millennia, populations from every corner of the World have traded with Somalia to purchase this resin, whose scent has always been thought to please the gods.

The entrance to the Russian national pavilion at this year's World Expo will be sheltered beneath a 30-metre-long cantilevered canopy that visitors can walk on (+ slideshow).
A team led by Russian architect Sergei Tchoban has developed a pavilion intended to celebrate Russian engineering – by adding an expansive floating entrance canopy with a curving mirrored underside and a roof garden above.
Covering an area of 4,000 square metres, the structure will be one of 145 national contributions to the expo, which takes place in Milan between May and October.
Sustainably sourced timber and glass have been selected as the main structural materials for the pavilion. A pair of transparent boxes will form the base, while the upper section will be a wooden construction that gently ascends towards the end of the canopy.
"The principal challenge in the development of the design was to create a remarkable building that resonates with contemporary architectural trends," explained Tchoban, who was also the curator of the Russian pavilion at the 2012 Venice Biennale.
The SPEECH Tchoban & Kuznetsov co-founder's team looked to past Soviet and Russian pavilions for inspiration.
"Our basic starting point was to combine a simple yet memorable architectural structure with a facade formed from sustainable, ecologically-sound materials. But an equally important task in our architectural development was to inject the essence of Russia into the design," said Tchoban.
"Russia is a country of vast expanses, of endless vistas, of huge tracts of forest. Therefore, as we have embodied 'Russian-ness' in our design by framing it an apparent infinite rhythm of wooden elements, there are obvious references to the typology of Russian landscape, with its rich forest cover and its gently sloping elevations, and to the traditions of wooden architecture of Russia, all coming together to create a modest, yet daring architectural statement," he said.
After exploring the main exhibition on the ground floor, visitors will be able to ascend to the rooftop gardens.

China pavilion at Expo 2015 Milano
Envisioned as a cloud hovering over a “land of hope”, the Pavilion is experienced as a series of public programs located beneath a floating roof, the unique design of which creates an iconic image for the project and a unique presence within the Expo grounds.
The theme for the China Pavilion is “The Land of Hope”.
The project embodies this through its undulating roof form, derived by merging the profile of a city skyline on the building’s north side with the profile of a landscape on the south side, expressing the idea that “hope” can be realized when city and nature exist in harmony. Conceived as a timber structure that references the “raised-beam” system found in traditional Chinese architecture, the Pavilion roof also uses modern technology to create long spans appropriate to the building’s public nature.
The roof is covered in shingled panels that reference traditional terra-cotta roof construction, but are reinterpreted as large bamboo leaves that enhance the roof profile while shading the public spaces below. Designed as layered screens, these panels add texture and depth to the Pavilion’s roof and create evocative light and transparency effects below.
Beneath the roof, the building’s ground plane is defined by a landscape of wheat (the “land of hope”) that references China’s agrarian past. This natural landscape transitions seamlessly into an LED multimedia installation in the center that forms the centerpiece of the building’s exhibition program.
The Pavilion’s full exhibition and cultural offerings are experienced as a sequence of spaces, beginning with an exterior waiting area in the landscape, leading to a themed exhibition space with interactive installations and cultural offerings from forty Chinese provinces. After this, visitors are guided up a gently sloped public stair to a panoramic viewing platform above the multimedia installation, after which they are guided into a multimedia space featuring a short film focusing on family reunions during China’s annual Spring Festival. This sequence concludes with visitors stepping outside the building onto a platform above the bamboo roof that enjoys expansive views of the Expo grounds.

Somalia Signs its Participation for Expo 2015 Milano
"Expo Milano 2015 - said the Somali Commissioner - is a unique opportunity for Somalia that for at least a quarter of a century has not been part of the marketplaces where the most important in the world congregate. With this participation we return to the international stage. The theme ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’ touches us very closely. Much has been said about Somalia as a country of famine: we want to show that we are already able to export and be self-sufficient in certain areas. "
Somalia participates in the Cluster dedicated to 'Agriculture and Nutrition in the Arid Zones’ with a new approach: They will share a pavilion of 125 square meters with other participating countries, in which each will have its own exhibition space. "We chose this Cluster because geographically Somalia lies in these areas, but mainly because we want to bring our experience as a country leader in the sale of livestock. We can talk about sheep, cattle, camels or goats. Today, many people do not know that Somalia exports abroad about 5 million heads of livestock per year, mostly to the Gulf countries. We want to bring our culture and show our potential. " Finally, Abdulakadir Hagi Ibrahim wanted to remind all that this is a strategic choice for his country: "We chose this area to attract the attention of many entrepreneurs. Our economic objective - he added - is to transform the proceeds of such exports to create a system of food-industry in Somalia, where Italian businesses could be strongly interested in participating in the near future. "

History - Tunisia at Expo 2010 Shanghai
Tunisian pavilion uses the traditional architectural features, such as two symmetrical arched doorways, and castles. The bright plates have different landscapes of traditional Tunisian cities and modern. 3 exhibition areas: "picturesque Country", "cities of cultural diversity", "long civilization capital."
- In the pavilion, visitors can see "blue and white town" and traditional Tunisian court gardener; listen to traditional music and scented incense smell typical of Tunisia.
- In the coffee area, you can make and taste the Tunisian coffee.
- The circular theater shows films about the beautiful scenery, cultural diversity and the brilliant civilization of Tunisia.
