Islamic Republic of Iran at Expo 2015 Milano
Theme "Food and Culture"
The Concept
The Persian territory was among the first in the world to bring forth civilization. Here, six thousand years ago the first humans experimented with farming and agriculture, with the first planting and irrigation techniques. The purpose of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s participation at Expo Milano 2015 is to illustrate the potential and capacity of its agricultural production. Through technology, eco-efficiency and exports, Iran aims to become the fourth country in the world for the supply of agricultural products.
The 14.3 million hectares (8% of the territory) of Iranian forests are vital for achieving food security and ensuring the survival of millions of Iranians. Iran also depends on its forests for its energy and water supply. The water of the mountain forests is essential for its farming and crop-growing, but also for promoting reforestation activities that guarantee the local communities the energy sources they need.
Given all this, the Iranian cuisine is among the richest there is, offering a variety of dishes like few other countries in the world. Its cereals, legumes, fruits (such as the pomegranate), vegetables, and animal and vegetable proteins make the Persian diet both healthy and balanced. The potential and the ability of its food industry are exhibited and represented in Iran’s 1,910 square-meter pavilion. Visiting its interior you can see what's new in the field of sustainable development and the fight against poverty and hunger, attend conferences, and admire the art and architecture of a tradition that dates back thousands of years.

The topic chosen by Romania for its pavilion in Expo 2015 is called Living With Nature. It was proposed by the association composed by Artiline and Adest Architecture and this choice was made official directly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which closed in this way the contest of ideas organized between February 4th and march 11th, which was taken part by eleven different creative studios, including two Italian firms.
STRAW, GLASS AND A LOT OF WATER
The winning project should recall the shapes of the traditional architecture, reinterpreting them in a contemporary way: the facility will be characterized by a roof of straw and some elements made of glass. Giro del gusto: Milan enjoys a taste of Switzerland
The first stage of the Giro del gusto, which took place in Milan from 30 April to 11 May, was a success. In 12 days, over 60,000 people visited the House of Switzerland, where they encountered various aspects of Switzerland including Swiss design, AOP regional specialities, concerts, Swiss tourism and the Gotthard tunnel.
The Swiss initiative was much appreciated by the local Milanese and by tourists visiting the city. The Swiss presence at one of the most visited sites in all of Milan – Sforza Castle – hit the mark. Presence Switzerland provided an open and convivial platform for communication around food – the theme of Expo 2015 – but also other subjects of importance to Switzerland like rural life, transport, innovation and tourism.
The private and public partners of the Swiss pavilion enriched the gastronomic and cultural programme.
"Seeing the mayor of Milan cutting into a Swiss cheese as a symbolic way of inaugurating the Giro del gusto here in this House of Switzerland with its contemporary architecture is quite something: our country is on to a winner in Italy!" enthuses Nicolas Bideau, head of Presence Switzerland. "The 60,000 people who took part in the AOP tastings are proof of our success: the Italians love Swiss produce and have shown they're keen to get to know their neighbour better. And while our Italian friends were enjoying our Swiss cheese and sausage, they were also captivated by our new Gotthard tunnel and our design 'made in Switzerland'. Tradition AND innovation rolled into one: Swiss style!"

Algeria... what's new ?
Theme "Agricultural heritage and Technological Development for food self-sufficiency"
The Concept
Algeria is participating in the Expo Milano 2015 in the Bio Mediterranean Cluster and will show two key aspects of the country: its cultural heritage and development. Its cultural heritage showcase describes how in the past, Algerians used to hunt for their food and how difficult that was in Algeria’s arid terrain. Hunting was also very much a part of rock art, typical of the Tassili region in the Sahara desert, in Northeast Algeria.
Its development showcase is dedicated to the cultural heritage of the Foggara, Algeria’s system for obtaining and distributing water in such tough and arid conditions. This section is focused on the sustainability and the efficiency of Algeria’s nutrition projects, namely, technology used in agricultural services such as greenhouses, dams, fertilization and campaigns against deforestation, desertification and marine pollution. Also highlighted is the rich and healthy Algerian diet which is based mainly on fruits, vegetables and fish. At the exhibition site of Algeria, a space of 375 square meters, visitors can taste traditional cous cous dishes and other typical fare from its national cuisine.

Brazil at Milan Expo 2015, a network of nature and technology
Brazil's connection and integration which has allowed it to achieve the ranking of world leading producer of food is reflected in the architecture of the Brazilian Pavilion, and indeed its "physics" metaphor that is represented by the network. The structure inside its Pavilion is a symbol of unity, connection and exchange, exchange of ideas, projects and ideas around the theme of Expo Milano 2015. In the same way, the movements of every single visitor within the network affects the movements of others, a symbol of how individual choices affect the experiences of others.
Based on the concept "Feeding the World with Solutions" in a total site of 4,133 square meters, Brazil shows visitors all its natural wealth and technology, along with the possibility, being analyzed and developed, of increasing and diversifying food production. Brazil is in fact one of the largest agricultural producers in the world, and while its agro-industrial activities are well-known, what is not so well-known is its technological production capacity. And so Expo Milano 2015 will become the perfect showcase for the Country’s knowledge, both traditional and innovative, to be shared with other Countries of the world at this great event.
