What about Ireland pavilion at Expo 2015 Milano ?

“Origin Green Ireland: Working with Nature”

Concept

Rich in natural resources and green pastures that are pure, fertile and productive, the spirit of Ireland is brought to life through its Pavilion, offering visitors a close up of its magnificent landscapes, historical heritage, contemporary culture and of its cuisine and hospitality.

On entering the Ireland Pavilion, visitors embark on an unforgettable journey through the Irish countryside and along its wild Atlantic coast. They learn how Ireland's gentle climate, its wind and ever changing light, lush green landscape and untamed Atlantic coast have conspired to make world-class farming and fishing possible, as illustrated by the feature exhibition “Wild Atlantic Way.”

Visitors can take in the Irish way of life, which echoes the values of Expo Milano 2015, in ensuring sufficient, good, healthy and sustainable food for future generations. With generations of family farms and fisheries, Ireland’s message to the world is clear: the land and sea belongs not to us, but to the ones that come after. A world-leader in verified, sustainable production, Ireland shares its vision of working with nature, showcasing the work of its farmers, food producers and Government. Working together, they are committed to foster a new culture of sustainability in agricultural and fisheries industries, serve local communities more effectively, and protect the rich Country’s resources.

At the heart of Origin Green there is Ireland’s commitment to harnessing science and technology for sustainable and socially-conscious food and drink production, increasing efficiency and avoiding waste. Inside the Pavilion visitors can learn how science, modern technology and natural resources can be potently utilized on the challenges of a secure flow of quality food and sustainable sourcing and production such as animal welfare, carbon emissions, energy efficiency, soil and grass health, water management and the use of pesticides and fertilizer. Given that the quest for sustainability can be both a beneficial and enjoyable process, the Pavilion also offers visitors an opportunity to taste and smell the delights of Ireland, as part of the Pavilion's cultural and events program.

Corporate... New Holland Agriculture pavilion

Respect the land and grow the future

Concept

In participating at Expo 2015, New Holland Agriculture takes the opportunity to show how a world leader of agricultural mechanisation interprets the present and prepares for the future of farming. A future that is sustainable and fair, in which the production of quality food, clean energy and high revenues are part of a single virtuous circle based on the use of renewable resources, respect for the land and the environment, and the elimination of wastage.

The concept of the Sustainable Farm Pavilion
The entire concept is inspired by the Clean Energy Leader® strategy pursued by New Holland since 2006 and in particular by the Energy Independent Farm project presented and awarded in 2009 at SIMA (Salon de la Machine Agricole), the international agri-business show of agriculture and livestock in Paris. It is based on energy self-sufficient farms and the belief that, free from the constraints of fossil fuels, farmers can "grow" their own sources of bioenergy.

Recchiengineering, one of the Italian leading companies in the field of design, project and construction management, is the group leader of a multidisciplinary project team composed by Carlo Ratti Associati (project leader), NÜSSLI Italia, Manens-Tifs, Studio Durbano that  has been appointed as the creative agency for the pavilion, following a competitive pan-European tender. Its project best interprets New Holland’s commitment to sustainable efficient farming. Through an attractive building, multiple interactive tools, video installations, augmented reality as well as tractors and harvesters displays, visitors will experience and understand how New Holland is promoting the importance of sustainable farming. The pavilion will be sustainably built, dismantled and reused for a different purpose after the Expo event.

Architecture of Lithuanian pavilion at Expo 2015 Milano

Architecture... pavilion of Lithuania

Pavilion designers – a blend of experience and youthful drive

Organisers of the competition to design a Lithuanian pavilion at the EXPO 2015 world exhibition received a record-breaking number of offers with as many as 27 conceptual designs submitted.

The designs were evaluated by a panel which, apart from representatives of the competition organiser, the Ministry of Environment, included the chair of the Lithuanian Architects Association, Gintautas Blažiūnas, dean of the Architecture Faculty of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Rimantas Buivydas, architects Rolandas Palekas and Marius Šaliamoras, ethnologist and professor at the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences, Libertas Klimka, Italy-based journalist Paulius Jurkevičius as well as TV show host and author of the book “Pasimatymas su Lietuva” (“A Rendezvous with Lithuania”), Edita Mildažytė. Public discussions on the competition entries were held in Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Vilnius and they were available on the web.

The project named “Balance” from a Kaunas-based architecture studio, JAS, was acknowledged the best. The panel was impressed by their originally balanced bi-volumetric composition which allowed introducing Lithuania as a country of unique tradition and technological innovation. A group of young architects directed by a highly experienced architect Virginijus Juozaitis then worked out the pavilion’s technical design.

An Italian company, WOA (directed by Saulius Gecas), is in charge of coordinating technical documentation with the Italian authorities, drafting of working drawings and overseeing of the pavilion’s construction process. Construction is carried out by an Italian construction firm selected through a public procurement procedure, Bodino Engineering, which, as a matter of fact, is also building pavilions of impressive architecture for an international real estate corporation, Vanke, (designed by a world-famous Daniel Lebeskind studio) and China at EXPO 2015. Of the approximately 20 entrants, organisers of Lithuania’s introduction at EXPO 2015 were satisfied with the conditions and qualification of Bodino Engineering the most.

History - Walk in Russia at the World Expo 1867 in Paris - Part 2

Russians products, presented in the palace galleries.

As we have learned in the first section on Russian participation in World Expo 1867 in Paris, this country was represented in two main areas of exposure. In first as a small village or small group of constructions, and in the huge Palais du Champ de Mars.
This is where we'll start our visit.

Russian section - Gate of Russia.

The expo visitor is primarily to a summary of Russia. Indeed, on a very small space, he finds himself to discover the wealth of products and a huge country, without tired.

It will take to the visitors half an hour to visit Russia in detail with the expo, which is limited to one side by Sweden, and the other, Italy. It's the Russia of the Exposition universelle !

Visitors can explore the extremes. The Russian exhibition is a kind of long nave. On one side is a rich Florentine style portico with fluted columns, capitals finely carved and statues of white marble. On the other hand, have fur whose appearance seems to give chills. They are presented in a simple gallery simple, such as cold and poor house of a simple Russian peasant.

Entrance of the Russian section.

The visitor of the expo is astonished by the harshness of Russian life. There are large fur with long hairs, skin's hats that fold on the ears, big leather boots to brave the snow and ice. All this suggests a very harsh climate.

The expo presents Russian everyday objects, objects where the superfluous practices have very little space.

Russian street in the Palace.

It also presented the products of culture. It's important to remember that in times of crop failure, Russia exports in different western countries, all the missing wheat from their consumption.

The products of fishing, hunting, forestry and livestock are also presented.
A showcase is completely dedicated to fishing, the work of salting and drying fish, production of caviar and the work of fishermen. It's a large industry.

Hunting is also well represented, it's learned in Siberia reached significant proportions. Moreover, taxes are paid in kind with fur, which is a private income for the Emperor.

But something drew particular the visitors of the russian expo. The showcase of Mr. Reschko Orenburg which contains a beautiful swan-skin coat! And also the products of the Belkin House in Moscow, which features clothing black fox or sable. The happiness of the ladies, and the terror of husbands.

 Russian street, cabinet photo.

The Paris visitor learns that beekeeping is a very widespread in Russia, and a valuable resource.
Honey instead of sugar, which is very expensive. Bees provide the wax candles which Orthodox churches consume an incredible amount.
The finest specimens of candles were presented by Mr Matchikhim of St. Petersburg and Mr. Moschnine of Pokrov.

The manufacture of linen is also very active in Russia and is sufficient for domestic consumption.
Russia exports aleady for several years in China, as the house of Mr. Bakine of Moscow.

A final presentation deserves comment is forest products. Pine, fir, larch, birch and cedar trees are the most common.

The wood is exported in the form of panels, boxes cars, but most of the production is used for heating.
We can easily imagine the amount of wood needed for heating in Russia, where coal mines are rare. House construction also requires a lot of wood. Most Russian houses are wooden and not last very long. According to statistics of this time, 60 000 homes burn each year, whether in town or country.

 Russian wood exhibition.

It remains the visitor to discover the last two productions.
Leather is an industry that employs about 13,000 workers in 2,500 establishments. The most notable are in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kaluga, Tver and Kassan.

End with the Russian mining industry. In Russia, we find almost all metals.
Gold occurs mainly on the eastern side of the Ural Mountains.
The silver mines all belong to the Emperor of Russia.
Copper is used for a long time in Russia, and employs 11,000 workers.
Iron is the Russian metal by excellence. Despite a major production, it's not enough and the country is obliged to provide in Sweden.

 Visitors in Russian section.

This Russian expo gives to visitors the appearance of a nation full of strength and vitality. The
country seems doomed to necessity industries rather than luxury industry. The reason seems to
come from a harsh climate, its people and its government.
Thanks to its development efforts, Russia will become the connecting link between East and
West.

Bahrain pavilion... learn more on the Website !

Archaeologies of Green

The pavilion of the Kingdom of Bahrain at the Expo Milano 2015 is a poetic interpretation of the cultural agrarian heritage of the country, which stems from the ancient civilization of Dilmun.

With ten distinctive fruit gardens, containing trees that will be fruit-bearing at different moments throughout the six-month duration of the exhibition, the pavilion also features archeological artifacts that celebrate the millennia long tradition of agriculture and perpetuate the many myths of Bahrain as the location of the Garden of Eden and the land of the million palm trees.

Built out of white prefabricated concrete panels, the pavilion will be moved to Bahrain at the end of the Expo and once rebuilt will serve as a botanical garden. The prefabricated components of the buildings, visible through the seams that connect them to one another, loosely refer to the inherent and distinguished forms of the archaeology of Bahrain.
